RCMBXI Maritime RFA Agrees to Submit to

Voluntary Arbitration

 

“The branch settled one maritime Request for Assistance (RFA) on March 6, 2020 on the issue of sickness allowance and total and permanent disability benefits,” Aerrine Marie R. Reyes, OIC-Director announced today.

Reynaldo M. Grado, a seafarer of Astra Marine International, Inc. filed a request for assistance. Parties utilized their grievance machinery however they did not reach a resolution.

Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Nancy Lasquite facilitated the said request and conducted conciliation conferences. After two meetings, parties then agreed to submit the issue to Voluntary Arbitration.

Parties were scheduled to select their Voluntary Arbitrator to handle their case and formulation of their issue last March 18, however, with the current situation brought about by COVID-19 pandemic and putting Davao Region under Enhanced Community Quarantine, all meetings were suspended until further notice.

Voluntary Arbitration refers to the mode of settling labor-management disputes by which the parties select a competent, trained and impartial person who shall decide on the merits of the case and whose decision is final, executory and binding (https://co.ncmb.gov.ph/voluntary-arbitration-program). It is the terminal step of grievance procedure.
